Achievements

Only five month have passed since the start of the project.  The list of achievements is impressive:

  • supported organization of GED (adult learning programme leading to a high school diploma) at the Harcourt Fire Hall
  • Aerobics at the Royal Canadian Legion in Harcourt
  • French as a second language class at the Bass River Fair Hall - note by the webmaster: the way Katherine Halas-Moulton taught us in a French-only environment was quite stressful for the slow ones like me, but it was great fun (also thanks to the group) and even I learned something - or as Valerie always exclaimed "C'est fantastique!"  Merci beaucoup, Katherine, and please continue the classes in the fall.
  • presentations for Upriver seniors at the Bass River Fair Hall and in Harcourt on:
    - Aging: The Stress of It All;
    - Frauds, Cons & Scams;
    - Diabetes
    - Alzheimer’s
  • Blood Pressure Clinic in Bass River
  • supported the St. Patrick’s Day Event at the Bass River Fair Hall
  • Collective Kitchen at the Royal Canadian Legion in Harcourt
  • presentation on health issues at the Bass River Fair Hall:
    - Suicide Prevention
    - HIV/Aids & Hep. C
  • three issues of our monthly newsletter "Upriver-News" on time to the post office and from there to most of the households in this area.  -  If you are living in the Upriver area and did not get all of these delivered to your mail box please let Tina Öffnet ein Fenster zum Versenden einer E-Mail know!
  • representatives from our area attended discussions involving
    - youth (regarding youth dialogue, safe communities and Öffnet einen externen Link in einem neuen Fenster Dolly Parton's "Imagination Library" - the latter being a wonderful programme providing children with a book a month),
    - economic development ( a two day conference organised by the Atlantic Council of Community and Social Enterprise at the Waterfront Campus in Dartmouth)
    - food related issues (Food Forum and Food Mentor)
